A. James Segal, MD
Dr. James Segal is the founder of Med Eye Associates. After completing his ophthalmology training and serving as chief resident at Washington Hospital Center and National Medical Center in Washington, DC, he began providing quality care for Dade County patients in 1975. Dr. Segal is a recognized leader in the ophthalmology community and is considered one of South Florida’s experts in refractive, cornea, and cataract surgery. He completed his undergraduate work at Brown University and earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland in 1969. Dr. Segal is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and he is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons. He also is trained in and performs oculoplastic, reconstructive, and cosmetic procedures. His other professional memberships include: Society of Implant Surgeons, Society of Refractive Surgeons and the Pan American Society of Ophthalmologists.
Zachary Segal, MD
Dr. Zachary Segal is the founder of Retina Department of Med Eye Associates. Dr. Segal is a Miami native who graduated from the University of Miami School of Medicine as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He then completed his internship at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York and his ophthalmology residency at the Georgetown/ Washington Hospital Center in Washington DC. Dr. Segal spent two years at the University of Alabama in Birmingham completing an extensive vitreoretinal surgical fellowship. Dr. Segal has earned numerous awards for his excellence in research and patient care including the J.G. Davis Research Award. He has given numerous presentations at national retina meetings as well as authored several publications devoted to retina research. Dr. Segal is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and provides the most sophisticated surgical and medical retina care for all of his patients. His practice serves as a research site for several national studies. He is a leader in the treatment of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular surgery, retinal detachment surgery, and ocular trauma. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Florida Medical Association, and American Society of Retina Specialists.
Janis Dzelzkalns, MD
Dr. Dzelzkalns is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in surgical and general eye care for patients of all ages. The son of Latvian immigrants, Dr. Dzelzkalns was born in Milwaukee and received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical School. He began practicing ophthalmology at the University of Illinois in Chicago in 1984. Dr. Dzelzkalns performs cataract, glaucoma, and anterior segment surgeries, as well as laser treatments for patients with glaucoma, retina and diabetic problems and complications. Dr. Dzelzkalns is an accomplished surgeon and has traveled several times to eye hospitals in India and Latvia to teach modern surgical techniques. He is a member of the Miami Ophthalmological Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American College of Surgeons, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He has authored articles and presentations on the prevention of postoperative infections, optic neuritis and multiple sclerosis, and the treatment of complications following corneal transplant surgery. He enjoys tropical gardening, aquaculture, and snorkeling.
Jorge Cesar Bruno, MD
Dr. Bruno is a board certified ophthalmologist and a recognized Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He specializes in anterior segment, cataract surgery, as well as comprehensive ophthalmology and plastic surgery. Dr. Bruno served as Chairman of the Ophthalmology Department and President of the Medical Staff at Suburban General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. From 1977 to 2006 he was the Director and leading surgeon of Allegheny Eye Center.
Dr. Bruno has also been a surgical instructor to ophthalmology reisdents for many years. He received his medical degree from Cordoba National University, Argentina and completed his residency at the University of Pittsburgh Eye and Ear Hospital.
