Janis Dzelzkalns, MD
Dr. Dzelzkalns is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in surgical and general eye care for patients of all ages. The son of Latvian immigrants, Dr. Dzelzkalns was born in Milwaukee and received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical School. He began practicing ophthalmology at the University of Illinois in Chicago in 1984.
Dr. Dzelzkalns performs cataract, glaucoma, and anterior segment surgeries, as well as laser treatments for patients with glaucoma, retina and diabetic problems and complications. Dr. Dzelzkalns is an accomplished surgeon and has traveled several times to eye hospitals in India and Latvia to teach modern surgical techniques. He is a member of the Miami Ophthalmological Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American College of Surgeons, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He has authored articles and presentations on the prevention of postoperative infections, optic neuritis and multiple sclerosis, and the treatment of complications following corneal transplant surgery. He enjoys tropical gardening, aquaculture, and snorkeling.
