LASIK is an outpatient procedure that is performed at our Miami location. Amazingly, the actual LASIK procedure only takes a few minutes per eye! However, we need a little extra time to have you complete last-minute paperwork. We also want to allow you plenty of time to relax before and after the procedure, so plan to spend approximately 2 hours with us on your surgery day. Our entire staff will work hard to make you as comfortable and relaxed as possible during your visit. If you are feeling especially anxious, we can provide relaxation medication to help calm your nerves.

Once you enter our surgery suite, here is what you can expect: 

• We will take you to a comfortable reclining chair.
• Our team will place numbing anesthetic eye drops into your eyes.
• Dr. Raja will perform one last check on your vision.
• Our team will position a special tool into your eyes to keep your eyes open.
• Dr. Raja will use a laser to create a thin flap on your cornea. You may feel a sensation of pressure during this part but most people do not describe it as painful.
• The corneal flap is folded back so Dr. Raja can perform the reshaping process to the appropriate areas of your corneal tissue.
• Then the VISX STAR S4 IR® excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea by removing small amounts of corneal tissue according to your unique refractive error. (See below for more information about this laser.) This step takes just minutes to accomplish. Eye tracking technology will detect the slightest eye movement and stop the laser until the eye is in perfect position again.
• The corneal flap is folded back into proper position where it begins to heal immediately.
• You will then rest in our pre-op suite and Dr. Raja will perform one final check of your eyes.
• When Dr. Raja gives the ok, you will be free to have a friend drive you home so you can rest.

The next morning most patients wake up to life with clear vision, although it may take a few months for your vision to completely stabilize.

VISX STAR S4 IR® Excimer Laser

At MedEye Associates, we have invested in VISX STAR S4 IR® excimer laser technology. Here are a few of the reasons we have chosen to implement this advanced technology for every LASIK patient:

After LASIK Surgery

Some patients experience temporary eye discomfort after LASIK in Miami including:

• Mild pain
• Itching or burning

It is important to avoid rubbing your eyes while your corneal flap heals to avoid infection or other complications. Discuss any of these conditions at your post-op appointment and contact your doctor if they continue.
